Rigging Load Calculators

Plan rigging on APEX mobile stages right in your browser. Enter each hanging point’s load on the stage grid and every beam, spanner, tower and mast is checked against APEX capacity as you type.

  • No Excel or macros needed
  • Live capacity checks
  • Save, reopen & print plans
  • Works on Mac, PC & tablet

Choose your stage

Each calculator uses the engineering formulas and capacity tables from the official APEX workbook for that model.

How it works

Loads are vertical, in pounds.

  1. Pick the stageSelect the model above. The calculator opens below with that stage’s plan.
  2. Enter your loadsClick the grid point where each motor or point hangs and type its weight. Tab, Enter and the arrow keys move between cells.
  3. Read the colorsTotals for every structural member update instantly and change color as they approach capacity.
  4. Save or printSave the plan as a file to reopen later, or print it / save it as a PDF to send to the APEX team.
  • Under 90% of capacity — approved
  • Over 90% — engineer review required
  • Over 100% — not approved
  • 4240: ¼, ⅓ or ½ point overload

Read before rigging

  • These calculators are for use by qualified personnel only.
  • All rigging loads applied to APEX stages should be reviewed by an APEX technician prior to deployment.
  • All rigging attachment to structure must be done per manufacturer specifications using overhead-rated rigging equipment.
  • Complex rigging plans, or any plan within 10% of allowed maximums, should be reviewed by an engineer prior to deployment.
  • Vertical loads only. Loads subject to wind — backdrops, scenic elements, video walls, etc. — need engineer review for the horizontal forces they induce.
  • In all cases the High Wind Action Plan (HWP) is in effect while the stage is in use.

Prefer Excel?

Download the original APEX workbooks. They require desktop Microsoft Excel with macros enabled — see the setup instructions.

Need a rigging plan reviewed?

Send your saved plan or PDF to the APEX team before load-in.
